Wildcarding allows you to send a group of files in a single file transfer command. It is particularly useful for hands-on file transfers. For instance, to send all the HTML files from the current account to the remote system, you could use the command TRANSMIT *.html.

Unlike most file transfer protocols, receiving files is just as easy. For instance, to receive some data files from a remote site, you enter the command RECEIVE *.dat from your local Autolog command mode.

It’s common to use switches in addition to wildcarding to selectively transmit or receive just the files that need to be transferred. For instance, TRANSMIT/HASH *.html transfers only those HTML files that do not have the same size and contents as the existing remote HTML files. RECEIVE/QUERY *.gif allows you to pick which files should be received and which ones should be left alone.
